Readiness vs. actual citations

Two different questions, both answered here

The free AI Visibility Checker result: an AI Visibility Readiness score next to the Google SEO health score

GEO Readiness (free, no signup) checks whether a page is structured to be citable across five weighted dimensions: citability, authority & brand, structural readability, technical accessibility, and multi-modal content. AI citation tracking (account feature) periodically asks AI engines real prompts and records whether your brand actually appears in the answer. Readiness predicts citation odds before the fact; tracking confirms what actually happened. See our AI search citation statistics for real, first-party data on how often each engine cites which kind of source.

What the GEO Readiness Score measures

Five weighted dimensions

The score is a weighted average of five dimensions: Citability (25%) — a front-loaded answer in a quotable passage, backed by real numbers; Authority & Brand (20%) — author or organization attribution and a consistent brand name; Structural Readability (20%) — question-per-section headings and scannable formatting; Technical Accessibility (20%) — whether AI crawlers such as GPTBot and ClaudeBot are actually allowed to fetch the page; and Multi-Modal Content (15%) — video, a data table, and images an answer engine can pull from beyond prose. Full weights and grading rules are on the Methodology page.

What this doesn't do

A high GEO Readiness Score improves your odds of being cited; it doesn't guarantee a citation — that depends on the AI system's own retrieval and ranking, which no third-party tool controls. Seeing whether you're actually cited today requires ongoing citation tracking, which is a separate, account-gated feature from this free check.

FAQ

AI visibility checker — FAQ

What's the difference between AI visibility and classic SEO? +

Classic SEO measures whether search engines can rank a page. AI visibility measures something related but distinct: whether an AI system such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity can find, understand, and cite that page when it answers a question. A page can rank well in Google and still be unstructured for AI extraction — long paragraphs with the answer buried at the end, no author attribution, no FAQ schema — and the reverse happens just as often, where a page with a thin backlink profile gets cited repeatedly because its answers are front-loaded and easy to quote. The two disciplines share some of the same underlying signals, such as clean HTML and a clear heading structure, but they are graded separately here because ranking well and being cited well are not the same outcome.

Does the free check tell me if ChatGPT already mentions my site? +

The free check gives you a GEO Readiness Score, not a live answer to that specific question. The score measures whether your page is structured in a way that helps AI systems cite it: a front-loaded, quotable answer, authority and brand signals, structural readability, multi-modal content such as images and video, and whether AI crawlers can actually reach the page at all. Whether an engine is citing you today for a specific prompt is a separate, ongoing measurement, because it means periodically asking AI systems real questions and checking their answers for your brand — that is an account feature, not something a single one-time check can determine. Readiness and being-cited-today are related but distinct, the same way a well-optimized page and a page that currently ranks first in Google are related but distinct outcomes measured in different ways, on different timescales.

What is a GEO Readiness Score? +

A GEO Readiness Score is a 0–100 score built from five weighted dimensions, each graded from deterministic checks of your page's real HTML rather than an AI's subjective opinion of it: Citability (25%) — a front-loaded answer in a passage short enough to quote cleanly, backed by real numbers instead of bare claims; Authority & Brand (20%) — author or organization attribution and a brand name used consistently across title, meta, and heading; Structural Readability (20%) — question-per-section headings that are actually answered, plus scannable formatting; Technical Accessibility (20%) — whether AI crawlers such as GPTBot and ClaudeBot are actually allowed to fetch the page; and Multi-Modal Content (15%) — video, a data table, and images an answer engine can pull from beyond prose. Full grading rules for each dimension, including exactly which signals move the score and by how much, are on the Methodology page.

Which AI systems does KinetixSEO track for citations? +

Tracked-prompt citation checks currently cover ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Grok and DeepSeek. Each tracked keyword's base prompt is checked weekly as part of every paid plan; extra prompts and on-demand checks spend credits. It is not a live crawl of every possible query.

Is the AI visibility check free? +

The GEO Readiness Score is free, no signup required. Continuous AI-citation tracking across engines — seeing whether you're actually mentioned in a given answer, with sentiment — is an account feature, separate from the free score.
